This is perfumed and beautiful with delicate plums and chocolate. Spices, too. Medium body and ultra-fine tannins that are polished and firm. A serious 2014. This still needs two or three years of bottle age.
Damilano's Cannubi vineyard is uniquely positioned at the convergence of the Barolo, Monforte, and La Morra valleys, at an elevation of 250 to 300 meters. This south-east orientation is ideal for grape growing. The vines, now between 35 and 50 years old, thrive in a remarkable soil composition featuring alternating layers of Tortonian Sant’Agata fossil marl, a calcareous clay rich in magnesium, and Helvetian sandstone. This rare inter-stratification is key to the vineyard's signature balance. The sand contributes to the wine’s aromatic lift and finesse, while the clay-limestone foundation adds depth and structure, creating the hallmark equilibrium of Cannubi wines.
2014 Barolo Vintage Context: The year began with a cool, rainy spring and early summer, necessitating meticulous canopy management to combat rot and mildew. Fortunately, a long, sunny, and breezy September and October ensured phenolic ripeness. This resulted in wines with lower alcohol, higher natural acidity, extremely fine tannins, and vivid aromatics. The 2014 vintage is considered a "classic" or even "Burgundian" year, more approachable than the robust 2013 or 2010 vintages, yet still offering solid mid-term aging potential.

Aromatic and spicy, this elegant red delivers cherry, leather and tobacco flavors shaded by vanilla and licorice accents. The tannins are on the rustic side, gaining finesse with air. Best from 2019 through 2029.
The Damilano Cerequio parcel sits on the slope that bridges the communes of La Morra and Barolo at an elevation of roughly 320–350 meters. Often hailed as the “grand cru of La Morra,” the site forms a natural amphitheater that maximizes sun exposure while shielding the vines from chilly winds. Plantings date from 1970 to 1985 and are spaced at about 4,500–5,000 vines per hectare. The soil is classic Tortonian marl—bluish-grey calcareous clay laced with fine sand and magnesium—which tends to produce Barolo noted for its lifted aromatics, silky tannins, and relatively early approachability compared with wines from Serralunga or Monforte.
The 2012 vintage had a dry winter and a cool, wet spring, which delayed flowering and led to a lower yield. Its hot summer and fine autumn promoted phenolic ripeness while preserving acidity. The vintage is considered a classic, balanced one with good longevity, offering more elegance than power.
